NEWSLETTER: SIGNING OUT OF 2024 ON A GRATEFUL NOTE

It is with a heart of gratitude that we bring the year 2024 to a close right after 12 memorable editions of Seniors Time-Out, the opening the Fullcircle day centre in February and very successful 11 months run of the day centre week after week since then, the vibrant community of Fullcircle Seniors that we have built since 2022 and a team of volunteers, sponsors, partners and well-wishers who continuously demonstrated an unwavering sense of commitment to the vision.

We started the year discussing the economic outlook for 2024 with the able CEO of Nairametrics Mr Obi -Chukwu who graciously dissected the micro and macro economic trends in such simplistic terms and offered advise to help our Seniors navigate successfully all through the year. In subsequent editions of Seniors time-Out, we had art and craft sessions, game tournaments, excursions, music sessions, dance sessions, book readings and so much more. All of which were very exciting, insightful, impactful and memorable.

One of the most memorable moments of 2024 was celebrating the 97th birthday of the oldest Fullcircle Senior. Pa Soyebo took to his dancing shoes and showed us his best dance moves surrounded by the warmth of the fullcircle family and his immediate family members. It was such a beautiful sight to behold as fellow seniors showered him with kind words and heartfelt birthday wishes.

In August, we recorded yet another historic event when over a hundred went on excursion to the ancient city of Abeokuta by train. It turned out to be the most interesting and memorable train ride ever as we set out very early in the day, boarded the train and had our music instructors engage us in folk songs and country music as we journeyed from the Mobolaji Johnson train station to Wole Soyinka station in Abeokuta. We visited historic sites such as the St Peters Cathedral, The Ake Palace, Olumo Rock, Adire Mall, Itoku- the ancient adire village, Obasanjo Presidential Library and we also paid a courtesy visit to the First Lady of Ogun State, Her Excellency Mrs Bamidele Abiodun who hosted us to a sumptuous lunch in the state capital.

On a rather sad note, three of our Seniors Alhaji Aremu Yekini Adeeyo, Mrs Cecilia Ibironke Adekeye and ACP Dorcas Ayodele Fadairo passed away in 2024. We choose not to mourn but be grateful to God for their lives because we know that they lived very purposefully up till the end. We pray that their souls will continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen

We brought the year to a close with a VINTAGE CHRISTMAS PARTY on the 19th of December and our Seniors showed up beautifully well in their traditional attires representing the diverse ethnic groups within the fullcircle community. There was lots of dancing, eating, drinking and merry making. We even threw in a fashion parade where we identified the best dressed male and female at the event. We also got the chance to savour delicacies from across the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The ambience was so beautiful and the seniors had a time of their lives.

As we journey into 2025, we pray that God keeps each and everyone of us and we remain committed to solving the problems of loneliness and isolation in Old age. At Fullcircle Geriatrics, we promise to continue to bring innovative activities, events and solutions that will continuously improve the mental, physical, social, emotional and psychological wellbeing of Seniors in our society. This is our commitment, So help us God.
